Book lovers know Vince Emery as a literary detective. He delights readers by sharing unseen treasures written by beloved authors and unknown stories about them. For mystery fans, Emery found 21 long-lost stories by Dashiell Hammett, the creator of The Maltese Falcon and The Thin Man, and told how each story shaped Hammett's life. The book Lost Stories was chosen as a featured alternate selection of both the Book of the Month Club and the Mystery Guild. Booklist said: "Emery does a fantastic job of bringing Hammett the accomplished writer and Hammett the struggling writer alive." Emery then published three additional books about Hammett and his works. For readers inspired by human rights hero Harvey Milk, Emery published Double Play: The Hidden Passions Behind the Double Assassination of George Moscone and Harvey Milk by Mike Weiss. Emery then edited The Harvey Milk Interviews: In His Own Words. Reviewers cheered that book. Lambda Literary Review said: "Angry, intelligent, and wickedly funny, Milk comes to glorious life." Emery restored Babes in the Wood: The Lost Stone-Age Sequel to Jack London's Before Adam, written by London's best friend George Sterling and lost for more than a century. He then edited Jack London's Before Adam Battles: The Media Frenzy Over His "Most Unfortunate Book", which revealed the never-before-told story (by turns surprising, hilarious, and heartbreaking) behind the worldwide media uproar over London's provocative book. Emery also wrote How to Grow Your Business on the Internet, the first book written by someone who'd done business on the Internet telling nontechnical people how to do it. Much to his surprise, the book became a bestseller, won awards, and was printed in eight languages. Emery and his Scottish wife Rita live near San Francisco, close to many of their favorite wineries and his favorite research libraries.
